On Monday, February 25, 2002, the Elevate Hope Foundation held its First Annual Benefit Gala, An Evening With Angels. It was a rousing success, and the evening was a memorable occasion for all who attended. Representatives from many different branches of the music industry attended in force.
While being treated to delectable food, fun entertainment, and touching stories, attendees were given various opportunities to support EHF's mission to rehabilitate and care for abused, abandoned, and severely emotionally disturbed children.
Special guest speakers included: Jimmy Smits, Cristina Saralegui and Rodney Peete. The entertainment aspect of the evening began, appropriately, with a performance by Sweet Strings, followed by a dance number with the children from the Debbie Allen Dance Academy (DADA).
Later in the evening, Sheila E. & The E-Kids treated the guests to a live performance of the "One Rhythm in Time" album. Combined with anecdotes from the lives of abused children who have benefited from music therapy, the Elevate Hope Foundation drove home their philosophy that children's lives are always changed for the better by music.
