Mortgage Madness

A small but mighty crowd helped cheer on Sheila E. and her EHF Celebrity Team at WMC Mortgage's Second Annual "Mortgage Madness" Charity Basketball Tournament at The Forum in Inglewood, CA on Saturday, August 14, 2004. The games featured the best four teams that advanced to the "Championship Playoffs" to compete with each other and then take on the Celebrity Team.

The fun all-day event featured food and music, a carnival for the kids, a silent auction with prizes such as original art and autographed items like a set of Sheila E. Player's Series Congas for kids, photos of rappers Ludacris and Usher, and items by "Dr. Phil" McGraw. The event also marked the debut of the new EHF line of t-shirts to support the Giv2Liv fundraising program.

Among the players who participated in the event were Jack Coleman (Kingdom Hospital), Tom Verica (American Dreams), Chynna (WWF), Arlen Escarpeta (American Dreams), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Jr., Chris Young, Tony Blades (former Detroit Piston), Tha Goodfellas (LA Radio Station Dee Jays of Power 106), and actor Larry Scott. The EHF cheerleaders, led by Velvet Sundae singer Carol Hatchett and Akasha Mabry (daughter of co -founder and CEO Lynn Mabry) rocked the house!

Sheila E. had a few good moves on the court during the last seconds of the game, cementing her team's victory with a final score of 130-123!

Immediately following the game were photos ops and autograph opportunities with celebrity team members and attendees. A VIP Reception summed up the evening, as each participating team received their comparative trophies.

"The day was fun, and I'm glad our team won", said the competitive Sheila E., who acknowledged that all proceeds from the event went towards Elevate Hope Foundation and Mentors For Youth charitable organizations.
